Susannah's Journal
Day One: Dec. 3
Today, we had Ms. Jansen come and talk about how to set up the project, using the wiki, and such. I started my research but have had very bad luck finding any information, so I am still looking. We had not decided to use the free web yet, so Erin and I looked through all the databases. We looked through Gale Group, EBSCOhost, Nettrekker, Britannica. We looked up our name of bacteria, then just Leuconostoc and just mesenteroides.
After, I emailed Erin about all the information, and we talked about getting or talking to either Mrs. Rasmussen, Ms. Tucker, or Ms. Jansen. So we emailed Ms. Jansen. We are waiting for a responce, but in the mean time we are still looking for information.
Day Two: Dec. 4
We had time to work in class today, and we talked to Mrs. Rasmussen and were told we were able to start searching on the free web due to the lack of information on the databases. We also started our timeline and decided at the lastest we should have all research done by Monday. I am starting to research on the reproduction process of our bacteria. Erin and I are going to do research and email each other back and forth so we don't have to worry about getting together.
We decided that after we get most of our information we would get together and finish formatting and double checking. We want to double check and maybe have a teacher check over it. We got a responce from Ms. Jansen, and we went into the library to meet with her, and got a little bit done. We still have a long way to go.
Day Three: Dec. 5
We had Ms. Jansen come in and talk about the sources and figuring out if the free web sources are okay to use. So we started to use the free web. We had some trouble, than we started to slowly find some information. We found one chart that had family, genus, and such so we were able to use the databases to look up through those to find information.
Then we decided to try to stick with databases and search up other key words about our bacteria. So I then tried that and slowly came up with some information. However, we are still having trouble with finding anything about reproduction, and history.
Day Four: Dec. 6
We found some new websites during class today. I added them to my note section, and we are trying to get everything formatted so we can add the information easily. I still cannot find anything on history or reproduction, so I am trying to get as much done as possible then try to look for that. I found some interesting facts about fermentation and sugar cane that relates to our bacteria.
We talked to Ms. Tucker who helped us out on the researching part. So Erin and I are trying to get as much done and then when we have work days in class or during lunch come meet with each other to finish things that we need to be together for.
Day Five: Dec. 7- 9
I can still not find anything on reproduction or history. The only dates I have are when the bacillus family was discovered. The research has kind of stopped, it seems like wherever we search there is no new information so thats making us very frustrated. We did have some luck and I found a video of fermentation so that is on our nutrition link that tells about where you can find it in food, such as pickles, and sauerkraut, and sugar cane.
I am trying to get pictures for most pages, because I know for me it is easier to understand if I can have a visual of what someone is talking about. There was some trouble with uploading the video I found yesterday but I got it to work. We talked to Ms. Tucker again and got some new ideas.
Day six: Dec 8
We had a huge problem. Erin lost all of her journal and had to start all over again. This put us back because she had to write her journal from memory and also had to do research..yikes. Hopefully everything will turn out okay. I got some information on habitat (soil water sugarcane) but thats pretty much it so I said a little about each one with everything I could find.
I found some interesting news about endospores and stuff so we just added that. I talked to Erin and she said she was working on her journal and when she got some done we'd go ahead and post it incase anything happens she can come back here and continue from where she last posted. Hopefully that won't happen though.
Day seven: Dec. 9
Erin and I talked and we think we will get together the day its due to go over it and send it in together. I am still having trouble on the reproduction and history... I hope everything turns out well. I don't have much to say today, because my research is going really slow and I haven't really gotten anything thats new. I am just still looking around through the databases.
Day eight: Dec. 10
Okay well we are back at school so Erin and I met during lunch to work on the project. I think we might do that the rest of the week. We looked for another video but found nothing. We are still looking for reproduction and history. We met with a teacher and talked more general so we didn't get much on what we were looking for but it helped for the broad website information.
I created a quiz for people to take after they look through our website to see if they learned anything or if it was informative. I added the link to it on our home page. We found some good information on stucture and have a whole page. That seems to be our longest page, because there is more information in general about structure of bacteria then the specifics of the history of Leuconostoc Mesenteroides.
Day nine: Dec. 11
We met during lunch again. I found some general information on the bacteria. But there is not much new stuff. I added all the sources to Source Aid and am editing the bibliography to be able to add. I edited the side bar so we have the informative pages, then the Erins Stuff with her notes and journal, then a section for mine. Then there is a section of other, where the bibliography link is located.
Day ten: Dec. 12
All I need to find are the reproduction, history, and finish up my journal, then I am done. I can't find history I can only find history of bacillus, so that info is on there with a picture. I found a really cool picture of gram stain positive that I added and it looks cool. I am adding the last few sources so all i have to add is the source I will use when I find reproduction.
I found some info on endospores, so I am looking on how to link it to our bacteria then create that page of info. I am waiting to see if Erin has any sources so I can add them. We ended up being lucky enough to be able to find all our info from databases, which I was hoping would happen.
Day eleven: Dec. 13
Day twelve: Dec. 14
Erin and I talked and we think we will get together the day its due to go over it and send it in together. I am still having trouble on the reproduction and history... I hope everything turns out well. I don't have much to say today, because my research is going really slow and I haven't really gotten anything thats new. I am just still looking around through the databases.
I found reproduction!!! I found about the spore production and bacteria reproducing asexually through fission. I am so excited!
Day thirteen: Dec. 15
One more day! I have pretty much added everything I have and everything I found through research so today and tomorrow I will probably just be checking and adding the bibliography, and finishing up my journal.
Day fourteen: Dec. 16
Okay today is a horribly busy day for me, so I have to have everything finished this morning and I e-mailed Erin asking her to either send it in or I would have to send it in around four. She still needs to add the rest of her journal which i think is on a word document, and her notes. I am adding the bibliography right after I finish this sentence then my part is done!!
